Young Lutherans Sing

A Music and Worship Program for Children
Young Lutherans Sing (YLS) is an inspiring choral and worship experience for young musicians with treble voices who have completed grades 4 through 8. This choral and worship experience provides participants with a variety of hands-on experiences and opportunities to develop musical skills. Musical opportunities for high school age students are available through Lutheran Summer Music and the Lutheran Youth Choir of North America.

YLS is a residential program providing children with a knowledge and appreciation of the Church's song that serves as the basis for future spiritual growth and worship leadership as members of their own congregations. Participants need not be Lutheran.

There will be no YLS camp held in 2011. We are working to secure funding, so that the program can once again be held in the summer of 2012. Watch this page for more details.

The 2007-2009 programs were held on the campus of Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and were supported by a generous grant from the Siebert Foundation. The 2010 program was held from July 27-31, 2010 on the campus of Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. Approximately 50 miles southeast of Chicago, Valparaiso is also the headquarters of the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians, which sponsors Young Lutherans Sing. Michael Burkhardt once again served as the YLS choral clinician and conductor. Internationally known for his creative work with children, Michael is in frequent demand as a choral and keyboard specialist. Award-winning author and storyteller Walter Wangerin, Jr. was a guest speaker at the 2010 YLS camp.
