Panel Discussion

Famed author and professor, Paul Westermeyer, moderates panel discussion

For all you worship and music planners reading this, we have a question:  Out of the abundance of worship music arrayed before you these days, how do you decide what to sing?  This is not a new problem.  It has been faced by all through the ages, but has there ever been such a sheer quantity of options?

Conference planners asked this very question of Paul Westermeyer, Professor of Church Music at Luther Seminary, author of “Te Deum: The Church and Music” and the now available “Hymnal Companion to ELW.”  In the first 2011 issue of CrossAccent he addressed this question in his article entitled, "Discernment." You can read his article on "Discernment" here. ALCM members are invited to join in a discussion of this article in the “Member Discussion Forum.”

At the conference this summer, the discussion continues. Dr. Westermeyer will moderate a distinguished panel consisting of representatives from ALCM and Lutheran church bodies: Lorraine Brugh for ALCM, Rev. Aaron Christie for WELS, Rev. David Johnson for LC-MS, Rev. Donald Neville for ELCIC, and Scott Weidler for ELCA.
