Job Description
We seek a leader who will help our church achieve more passion, inspiration and relevance in worship and teaching. This new, full-time salaried position will play a key role in guiding all aspects of worship and music at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church (HTLC). Partnering with pastors, staff and other church leaders, the Director of Worship and Music will shape, guide and communicate a new vision for music and worship ministry at HTLC. With a diverse segment of worshippers, we strive to provide a meaningful, enriching, high quality worship experience for all age groups and preferred worship styles.
Responsibilities
1. Develop a strategic vision for worship and music at HTLC, with a focus on achieving HTLC�??s mission and guideposts.
2. Facilitate the planning of worship services and musical opportunities in partnership with pastoral staff.
3. Supervise all paid and volunteer positions at HTLC related to music, including: organists, keyboardists/pianists, choir and handbell directors.
4. Coordinate, manage and direct music, drama and other segments of worship services and music education.
5. Create, develop, and nurture new opportunities for HTLC members to express their faith through worship and music.
6. Attend worship services to ensure success of music and dramatic elements of worship.
Skills and Qualifications
1. Education/Experience �?? M.A. in Music preferred (church music or music education). Previous experience in teaching and directing choirs. Liturgical experience preferred (especially familiarity with Lutheran theology, liturgical practice and use of music in worship).
2. Strong musical background �?? Ability to lead other directors and musicians. Select appropriate music for all worship services and choirs. Active participation in directing and playing instruments for various styles of worship. Keyboard skills are a necessity.
3. Organization �?? Able to organize self and others, manage budgets and timelines, attend staff and volunteer committee meetings, persistence in recruiting and managing volunteers.
4. Communication �?? Communicate information to others clearly in verbal and written form, listen to and consider ideas from others, ability to respond to issues and problem-solve, work closely with the Worship Standing Ministry Area.
5. �??Hands-On�?� abilities �?? Responsible for maintaining and managing HTLC�??s musical instruments and equipment (including inventory, repair, and replacement needs), gain a general working knowledge of HTLC�??s sound system and AV system and act as supervisor for the IT/AV coordinator.
