- SUMMARY
This position is responsible for directing the music program activities for children of elementary school age and older. It is part-time position at approximately 5 hours per week through the program year (Sept-June) with concentrated responsibilities in the Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter seasons of the church year.
Preferred candidates should have formal training in music education and/or choral conducting. Training or experience with music programs such as Kodaly and Kinder Music and/or prior experience directing a church choir or music program is desirable.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruit, organize, and direct congregation choirs for presentation of worship music through the church year on Sundays and at other designated times with attention to 1) church year calendar and themes, and 2) special events and activities of the congregation.
Develop a rehearsal and performance schedule (performance schedule developed in conjunctionwith pastors, adult choir director, and music team).
Direct the choir at weekly rehearsals.
Lead the Sunday morning Discovery Zone Sunday School opening music session according to the schedule agreed upon with the Children & Family Director.
Work in partnership with Children & Family Director and other staff on Christmas program and other occasional collaborative events.
Work with Pastors to develop a program of music for children – elementary age and above.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Experience in directing a church choir and/or music program; children’s music training, e.g. Kodály, Kinder music, or other method of teaching, would be helpful.
Familiarity with both contemporary and traditional children’s worship music.
Willingness to extend invitations to potential choir members.
Formal training in choral conducting, music leadership, or music education, or equivalent experience.
Commitment to the Christian faith and the mission of West Linn Lutheran Church.
Regular Attendance at worship at WLLC
