- Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Play the organ for the Traditional Service each Sunday and will also be responsible for playing for the other seasonal services throughout the year; Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve (2 services), Ash Wednesday (Evening Service), mid-week Lenten services -5, Maundy Thursday (Evening service), Good Friday (Evening service)
2. Select and prepare preludes, offertories and postludes appropriate to the day/liturgical season.
3. Plan with the Pastors and Director of Music, special services held throughout the year
4. Work with Director of Music in selecting appropriate choral music for the Chancel Choir.
5. Hold regular weekly choir rehearsals and direct the choir at the Traditional Service on Sundays (September through May)
In addition, prepare the choir for special services throughout the Church year such as Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Easter, as determined by consultation with
Director of Music and Pastors
6. Arrange for special music for the Traditional service from June- August.
7. Actively recruit new members to the Chancel Choir, providing an atmosphere of musical learning, growth and mutual care.
8. Provide organ music for all weddings and funerals held at the church, consulting with wedding couples or families if requested. For these services the organist will receive an additional fee as specified in the church policy. The services of another organist may be used with the permission of the regular
organist.
9. Prepare an annual report detailing the current condition of the organ/piano and specifying the necessary maintenance.
Skills and Qualifications:
1. A higher level of educational background consistent with a higher level of responsibility.
2. Experience in choral conducting and choral music.
3. Knowledge of appropriate church music (classical, contemporary, folk, and gospel) and the role of music in Lutheran worship.
4. Experience as a “team player” and ability to relate to others with good interpersonal skills.
5. Knowledge of the instrument and keyboard ability sufficient to play hymns, liturgy, and easy anthem accompaniments at sight. List other education requirements, such as Bachelor of Organ Performance, or Bachelor of Music.
