Paul Gerhardt Quadricentennial

Lutherans are preparing to commemorate the work of Paul Gerhardt (1607-1676), the man widely regarded by many as the best devotional poet in Lutheran tradition. To help our congregations observe the 400th anniversary of the birth and baptism of the great Lutheran hymn writer, the ALCM offers a sermon by Pastor Craig Mueller and a commemorative hymn festival developed by Susan and David Cherwien. More information and suggestions about the Gerhardt commemoration year, originally published in “Grace Notes,” are found elsewhere in this web page.

Print versions of the sermon and the hymn festival are found in the 2006 winter edition (Vol. 14, No. 3) of Cross Accent.

The sermon and hymn festival may be downloaded or copied for local use, providing full credit and acknowledgment is assigned to the authors. Obtaining copyright permission or performance rights for any copyrighted texts or music referenced in the sermon or hymn festival is solely the responsibility of the congregation or other user.
